The Ask
"Is the latest firmware and driver pack from Framework installed?"
Simple question. Never simple work. You're pulling BIOS versions, cross-referencing vendor releases, auditing drivers, hunting unknown devices. Three browser tabs, two vendor portals, half your afternoon.
Caisey did it in 49 steps and under 10 minutes.
The Investigation
The target: a Framework Laptop 13, 13th Gen Intel Core. Caisey confirmed the hardware, pulled BIOS 03.16 (March 2026), then went hunting. Registry scrapes across both hives. PnP device enumeration. Signed driver inventory with version numbers and dates. Driver store inspection. Windows Update history and pending queue. Even tried hitting Framework's KB directly — got Cloudflare-walled and 404'd, pivoted to community forums and GitHub. Tenacious.
The Findings
BIOS appeared current. Intel Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, graphics — all reasonably fresh. But Framework's unified driver pack? Never installed. Every driver arrived piecemeal through Windows Update.
The flags Caisey caught that a quick glance wouldn't:
- A Realtek USB Ethernet driver from **2023**
- One USB device throwing "Device Descriptor Request Failed"
- A pending Intel network driver update sitting uninstalled
